Time-flux

4-layer transparent screens and 4-channel sound installation //2024
Infinite duration

In collaboration with Bryan Yueshen Wu

Time-flux is a generative audio-visual installation that reimagines the form of time. It consists of four layers of transparent screens and quadraphonic surround sound, together forming a dynamic spatial sculpture. The audio-visual interplay of Time-flux depicts free-floating “time particles” collapsing around the pull of subjectivities. The generative sound collage draws from an intimate collection of field recordings, symbolising subjective emotions and experiences. Visual particles respond to the dynamics and textures of the sound, producing effects of attraction and repulsion.

In modern society, time is often treated as uniform units for production and commodification. Time-flux addresses the dehumanising experience of being bound to such a system. Inspired by the philosophical concept of durée and the scientific theory of time dilation, the work celebrates the hidden, experiential dimensions of time that exist beyond measurement.
